River Ebro Spanish Catfish Record

6th July 2005

Two British anglers have broken fishing records by reeling in this 211lb catfish.

Duncan Rooke, 32, and Stephen Buss, 30, hauled in the 7ft 7in monster at the River Ebro, near Barcelona in Spain.
It is also the biggest fish ever caught in Spain.
The monster nearly pulled 32-year-old gas engineer Rooke back into the river once he had hold of her.

'It took five of us,' he said. 'She dragged me off the bank.'
After weighing the fish and burping her to get rid of the air in her stomach, the happy anglers released her back into the water.
